Our holiday cottage called Am Fasgadh, Gaelic for "The Shelter", is part of the small hamlet of Leac na Saide (Slab of the Arrows), some 70 miles due west of Inverness.

The house is a cedar shingle clad wooden house which sleeps eight.

The accommodation consists of a spacious open plan living room with a view across the Loch, dining area and adjoining kitchen.

There are four double bedrooms, two with twin beds. A bathroom, a shower room, and a utility room complete the house.

The house is fully equipped including a microwave oven, dishwasher, washing machine and television & video to help make your holiday more relaxed.

There are books, puzzles and games in the house, and a table tennis table in the garage for evenings or rainy days.

The house faces north east with a view across Sheildaig Loch an arm of the sea. The garden is not cultivated and is suitable as a play area for children. There is a stream and a small pond below and to the west of the house.

The patio is south facing and can be used for barbecues. The shore, to which you have access is about 100 yards away, and is rock and shingle with a sheltered anchorage suitable for boating.

Leac na Saide is a small hamlet on the south side of  Gairloch in Wester Ross ( seventy miles west of   Inverness). The area is one of outstanding natural beauty, combining sea and mountains. With several   Munros (mountains over 3000 ft) within easy reach, it is a paradise for walkers. Loch, river, and sea fishing are all available. There is also a well maintained and interesting 9 hole links golf course, situated above one  of several stunning beaches.

Ten miles to the north is one of the area's most popular attractions, Inverewe Gardens (run by The National  Trust for Scotland). Warmth from the Gulf Stream allows palm trees and other exotic plants to grow here  alongside pine trees and rhododendrons.

The village of Strath, on the north side of the loch, has a range of facilities including Post Office, butcher, gift   shops, coffee shops, general store (The Wild Cat), bank (Bank of Scotland) and an interesting local history museum.

How To Book

Am Fasgadh is available for weekly rental running form noon on Saturday to noon the following Saturday.

Rental for 2004 is £400 per week based on occupancy of 6 to 8 people.

Lower rates may be negotiated for lesser numbers and outwith the period 1st july to 14th September.

The house may be rented for shorter periods (off season) than one week, dependent on demand.
